BellyUp's is proud to host one of the region's most successful American Tribal Style bellydance programs  led  by ATS instructor "Valizan".  During the early days of the ATS program, it was clear that ATS had found a perfect match at BellyUp, and our program quickly spawned a tribe of amazing women who have come together as Maya Fire, one of BellyUp's most popular dance ensembles. Maya Fire performs regularly throughout the community at a wide range of events such as  multicultural festivals, functions such as Halton Trauma Center Gala, Halton Multicultural Council Gala, Burlington Sound of Music Festival, Oakville Waterfront Festival, Take Back the Night, Asian Heritage Festival, Halton Multicultural Fair, Love of the Arts Oakville, Oakville Wholistic Fair, Fuller Woman Expo, Canada Day Festival to name only a few. And this year we are very proud that Maya Fire will be performing on Main Stage at the International Bellydance Conference of Canada on April 23rd.  If you are interested in booking Maya Fire for an event, please email info@bellyup.ca for more information, rates, and scheduling availability.

The members of Maya Fire  come with a variety of dance backgrounds and are drawn to American Tribal Style for its proud and earthy style, which was developed by FatChanceBellyDance of California in the 1980's. The dance form draws its movements, costuming and general inspiration from the Tribal cultures of the Middle East, North Africa, India, and Spain. A unique aspect of the dance is group improvisation. Dancers learn a set vocabulary of movements, which are subtly cued by a leader to give the impression of a choreographed performance.  Maya Fire's instructor and mentor Valizan teaches ATS at BellyUp and is also available to perform as a soloist and/or  along with his very own dance troupe, Shades of Araby.
