Nourhan Sharif is known for her earthy Saidi movements and improvisation with the Assaya (aka cane)! More earthy & heavy than urban Cairo music, the scratchy cry of the Rababa and the swirling shout of the Mizmar, inspire a strong yet playful dance. The canes twirl and strike to the pounding Saidi beat of the huge Tabla Baladi. All the women and men of Southern Egypt rejoice in the optimistic tradition of Upper Egyptian dance. Their long Galabayya's flow with the music. The altitude is high but the centre of gravity is low. Everyone will participate in this workshop by creating their own combo with the Assaya. We suggest that you purchase Nourhan's Assaya DVD before the workshop to get the most out of the class.
About Nourhan Sharif
Nourhan Sharif has been a force in the dance since childhood! Second generation bellydancer, she has performed and taught on every continent, managed and sponsored events for ALL of the top Egyptians available in the danc eform, assisted many fellow artists in their growth in the business through various projects, currently manages all North American affairs for Egyptian superstar Mohamed El Hosseny, executive director of the Egyptian Academy of Dance in NYC since 1997 and has produced/directed 4 training DVDs and 8 CDs of her own. Nourhan is the bellydance fashion creator of "Sharifwear" made for Divas that Dance! Nourhan has never lost her artistic side" and continues to create on a daily basis. She managed her previous husband fo 20 years and made him an international success! Nourhan holds an MBA in International Business and an MSW from Simons College in Boston.
