Here's a helpful checklist of what to prepare for your first class:
- Arrive 5-10 minutes early to sign-in, settle in and warm-up.
- Remove your outdoor shoes when you come inside.
- At your first class, you'll be required to complete a one-time short waiver form.
- Sign in at the front desk upon arrival for each week.
- Bring a bottle of water. Stay hydrated!
- We recommend workout wear. Leggings/tank top is great.
- Footwear can be indoor-use only track shoes, dance slippers or bare feet.
- Bring a hip scarf or something to tie around your hips.
- Take your belongings to the dance floor and place at the back of the room.
- We fill the class from front to back.
- Our doors lock 5 minutes after the class starts.
Other helpful tips!
- Introduce yourself to your Instructor. Let her know of any health or physical issues she should be aware of.
- Get to know the other students! Before or after your class, take time to introduce yourself to those in your class.
- Listen to your body and go at your own pace. If you need to sit out for any reason, feel free to take a short break whenever needed.
- Everyone learns differently and at different paces. Your Instructor will always ask if there are questions so don't be shy to ask. She will be happy to break it down for you in a different way. We love questions.
- Classes always start with a warm-up and guided follow along with the Instructor. After that posture/alignment, arm and hand positions and technique breakdowns will be taught and practiced. Students typically learn several moves and travelling steps in a lesson which are drilled and then eventually all glued together to create a short sequence. We encourage you to practice at home which is the key to progressing. Bring a notebook to jot things down and feel free to video yourself at the end of class dancing the sequence.
